CHILD & YOUTH

The Child and Youth Program is aimed at school-age children to help them develop social skills such as problem solving, friendship building, effective communication, feelings and anger management, and self-esteem building. 

Programs are offered at designated schools during school hours and run weekly for 6 - 8 weeks. Most program curriculums are flexible and can be adapted to meet the needs of the students.

School Break Day Camps

For youth ages: 6 - 12 years

Full Week Spring Break Camp Only: $140.00 per child
One Day Camps Only: $40 per child

As part of our extended Child and Youth programming, Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer school break day camps for ages 6 – 12! Join us for themed activities, arts and crafts, games and more, utilizing our Kids with Confidence social skills curriculum. Camps are offered full day 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. with FREE before and after-camp care provided from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Children must bring their own lunch and healthy snacks (nut-free) from home. All children attending camps must have completed Kindergarten.

Valentines Day Extravaganza ( $40 per child, 1 day camp )

Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer Valentine’s Day Extravaganza for ages 6-12! This day is filled with a variety of games and activities that will help you learn about being a good friend, making crafts to share with someone you care about or to decorate for Valentine’s Day, and just have a lot of fun. Our Kids with Confidence Curriculum is interwoven into activities throughout the day. Camps are offered full day 9am-4 pm with free before and after care from 8:30 to 5pm. Children must bring their own lunch and healthy snack (nut free) from home. All children attending camps must have completed kindergarten.

Fairytale Adventures ( $40 per child, 1 day camp )

Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer Fairytale Adventures for ages 6-12! The land of fairytales is a place of adventure where you can build your own castle, wake sleeping dragons, and have fun with all kinds of activities and adventures. Our Kids with Confidence Curriculum is interwoven into activities throughout the day. Camps are offered full day 9am-4 pm with free before and after care from 8:30 to 5pm. Children must bring their own lunch and healthy snack (nut free) from home. All children attending camps must have completed kindergarten.

Winter Art ( $40 per child, 1 day camp )

Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer Winter Art for ages 6-12! A variety of games and art activities for indoors and outdoors, dependent on weather. Our Kids with Confidence Curriculum is interwoven into activities throughout the day. This can be registered in as a one day camp or as day one of a two day camp opportunity. Camps are offered full day 9am-4 pm with free before and after care from 8:30 to 5pm. Children must bring their own lunch and healthy snack (nut free) from home. All children attending camps must have completed kindergarten.

Winter Wonderland ( $40 per child, 1 day camp )

Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer Winter Wonderland for ages 6-12! There is much we can explore in winter. Perhaps you may enjoy Olympic Yoga or building an Olympic Stadium with Lego and so much more. Our Kids with Confidence Curriculum is interwoven into activities throughout the day. This can be registered in as a one day camp or day two of a two day camp opportunity. Camps are offered full day 9am-4 pm with free before and after care from 8:30 to 5pm. Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer Healthy Beginnings for ages 6-12! Healthy Beginnings and new beginnings often go hand in hand with spring. Come prepared to Escape from Ice Mountain, Build a Bridge, and make fizzy dough and so much more. Our Kids with Confidence Curriculum is interwoven into activities throughout the day. This can be registered in as a one day camp or day two of a two day camp opportunity. Camps are offered full day 9am-4 pm with free before and after care from 8:30 to 5pm. All You Need Is Color ( $40 per child, 1 day camp )

Family Futures Resource Network is excited to offer All You Need Is Color for ages 6-12! Enjoy a day of making a variety of art creations. You guessed it…..Using lots of color. Can you imagine drawing with your eyes closed? Or creating Color Wheel Slime? Our Kids with Confidence Curriculum is interwoven into activities throughout the day. This can be registered in as a one day camp or day two of a two day camp opportunity. Camps are offered full day 9am-4 pm with free before and after care from 8:30 to 5pm. Home Alone Program

For youth ages: 10 and up | Parental consent forms required.  | Registration required - $25 fee. | ONLINE REGISTRATION

Ideally, children should be supervised at all times by a responsible adult. However, today’s family situations often cannot accommodate this idea. The Home Alone Program is designed to provide children with the necessary skills and knowledge to be safe and responsible when home alone for short periods of time. It will help them understand how to prevent problems, handle real-life situations, and keep them safe and constructively occupied. This program has been developed by the Canada Safety Council and is recommended for children who are at least 10 years of age and up. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance. REGISTRATION REQUIRED. $25 fee.

Youth Nights at Family Futures Resource Network

Often when children are home alone, they need to prepare a snack or meal.  This version of our Home Alone program includes a bonus segment on kitchen safety and practice preparing simple snacks safely.  They will get to eat their creations for lunch. This program has been developed by the Canada Safety Council and is recommended for children who are at least 10 years of age and up. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance.

Kids With Confidence is a Social Skills  program aimed at developing general social skills of youth, focusing on topics such as; friendship building, communication, self-esteem, team work, bullying and assertiveness. FFRN Youth Cooking Club - Level 2

For youth ages: 10 - 14 years | Parental consent forms required. | $25 program fee. | ONLINE REGISTRATION

Welcome to Youth Cooking Club Level 2! This exciting program builds on Youth Cooking Club Level 1.  It is designed for youth (10-14 years of age). Growing on the skills they learned in the original program, the youth will focus on developing safe kitchen practices, learn how to make balanced meals & will even get the chance to create their very own unique recipes. Each week the youth will work in teams to follow a recipe & will get the chance to share their yummy creations with all the participants in the program. All young chefs in this program will also receive a certificate of completion at the end of this food-tastic program.  Please speak with a facilitator when you register your child if you feel the age requirement doesn’t match their experience level.  Registration and parental consent forms required. $25 fee

Being a good digital citizen in the community includes having good online etiquette, reporting and preventing cyberbullying, learning how to protect private information, and being mindful of what is shared with individuals and on social media.

When using Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or other social media, it is important to understand how these organizations treat your private details and what information is credible online. In this program, we will discover how social media sites use your data, how information (and misinformation) is shared and learn strategies to have a healthy relationship with your social media. This program takes a family-focused approach; youth and adults are welcome to attend.

Y- Digital: Understanding Online Gaming for Parents & Youth

Gaming provides a fun and challenging medium where youth can experience a number of social, cognitive and spatial skill benefits. The online gaming community presents an entire world where a child, teen or adult can interact with individuals from a diverse background in a collaborative and fun environment. In this workshop, participants will discover how to safely participate in online gaming. Parents will better understand the benefits/risks of gaming, the online gaming community, gaming culture and be given tips on communicating with passionate young gamers.

The cornerstone of Junior Achievement, the JA Company Program, sees groups of students work together to operate their own business venture.  Divided into five phases: Inspire, Unite, Build, Launch, and Achieve, the program allows students to take ownership of their success by giving them the resources necessary to run their business. Companies identify and create a product-based business using market research, create and sell their product; and liquidate their business over the span of 18 weeks.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in exciting events like The West Edmonton Mall Tradeshow and The Alberta Business Hall of Fame.  Students who successfully complete the program are eligible for over $25,000 in awards and scholarships every year.  This program is FREE for participants in grades 8-12 and we are excited to be hosting it at Family Futures Resource Network.  To register, visit www.janorthalberta.org For questions, contact Morgan at mzinck@janorthalberta.org
