This interactive program will provide an overview of attachment and the impact of trauma on brain development along with information about attachment styles. The significance of parent-child interactions in the early years and how to foster the interactions as children grow will be discussed. This can be taken on its own or as an introduction to the 6-week Trauma and Attachment course that follows. Emails will be sent out after registration closes with Google Meet information from the Family Centre. A Google account is required for the program.

Edna Wakene is a Doctorate level Therapist and a Registered Professional Counsellor (RPC) & Master Practitioner in Clinical Counseling (MPCC) at The Family Centre in Edmonton. She specialized in Child development and Well-being research in the field of Attachment and was awarded a Gold medal for outstanding research and contribution to the field study literature. She had the privilege to work with diverse population affected by trauma focusing on the well-being of children and youth and other marginalized community members and is involved in regularly providing Clinical supervision and consultation to service teams. She has experience working for not-for-profit organizations in Canada and across many countries. Edna’s current role at the Family Centre is Clinical Manager of Therapy and Counseling services.
